Lehmann's Barcelona gin and tonic glass is made of crystal, holds 50 cl, and is supplied in sets of six. A balloon-shaped bowl on a short stem, designed for gin and tonic with plenty of ice and generous garnishes.
Why a balloon glass
The rounded bowl gathers the aromas of the gin and botanicals beneath the slightly narrower opening, so you smell them before drinking. That is the difference from a straight highball glass, where those same aromas dissipate immediately. Fill the glass two-thirds full with ice; the more ice, the more slowly it melts and the less your drink becomes diluted. Pour the tonic down the inside of the glass and stir no more than once with a bar spoon to retain the carbonation.
Care
Crystal is thinner and clearer than soda-lime glass, but it is also more susceptible to knocks and limescale. Use a moderate wash cycle, place the glasses stem-up in a rack with dividers, and make sure they do not touch one another. Rinse with soft water and polish while lukewarm with a microfiber cloth; waiting until the glass is cold means polishing away stains instead of preventing them.
