The recipe
for your table
Spoon the pulp of half a passion fruit into the shaker and add the vodka, liqueur, lime juice, and vanilla syrup.
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds, until the outside becomes frosted.
Double-strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
Let the other half of the passion fruit float on the cocktail and serve a shot glass of ice-cold prosecco alongside it.
The story
Bartender Douglas Ankrah created this modern classic in 2002 for his London bar Townhouse. The name was pure provocation—in Ankrah's words, it was simply “a drink a porn star would order”—but the flavor turned out to be seriously good: ripe passion fruit juice, vanilla, and the dry counterpart of ice-cold prosecco. The cocktail first conquered Great Britain and then the rest of Europe. Twenty years later, it appears on the menu at virtually every cocktail bar and is a staple at weddings and parties.
The right glass
The Pornstar Martini is a double act: the cocktail itself takes center stage in a coupe or martini glass, accompanied by a small shot glass of ice-cold prosecco. Choose a coupe of 22 to 26 cl so the floating passion fruit can steal the show, and pair it with sleek shot glasses of 6 to 8 cl. Those who choose a set of both have the complete serving experience at home in one go. You can find individual shot glasses for the prosecco shot in our shot glasses.

Variations & twists
Try replacing the prosecco with champagne for a luxurious version, or leave out the shot and pour the sparkling wine on top as a “topped” version. Using mango instead of passion fruit gives you a softer tropical cousin. It can also be alcohol-free: passion fruit juice, vanilla syrup, and 0.0 sparkling wine. Looking for more inspiration? Servingtip
Serve the prosecco really ice-cold and explain the ritual to your guests: first a sip of sparkling wine, then the cocktail. No vanilla vodka at home? Let a vanilla pod infuse in regular vodka for a few days.
Alcohol-free Pornstar Martini mocktail
The 0.0 version works surprisingly well, because this cocktail’s character mainly comes from the passion fruit and vanilla. Replace the vanilla vodka with 4 cl of passion fruit juice and half a teaspoon of vanilla extract, leave out the Passoã, and increase the vanilla syrup to 1.5 cl. Shake with the pulp of half a passion fruit and serve a shot of alcohol-free sparkling wine alongside it. The ritual remains exactly the same, and for most guests, that’s half the fun.
Without vanilla vodka or Passoã
No vanilla vodka at home? Place a split vanilla pod in a bottle of regular vodka for two to three days; it comes close to the store-bought version and is much cheaper. Don’t have Passoã? Any passion fruit liqueur will work, or, in a pinch, use 2 cl of passion fruit juice with an extra half a centiliter of vanilla syrup. The cocktail will then be slightly fresher and less rounded, so taste it before serving.
Pornstar Martini as a dessert and tiramisu
The flavor combination of passion fruit, vanilla, and prosecco is perfect for a dessert. For a Pornstar Martini tiramisu, dip ladyfingers in a mixture of passion fruit juice and a splash of Passoã instead of coffee, and mix mascarpone with vanilla syrup and a little lime zest. Finish with fresh passion fruit pulp. If you serve it in a coupe, it creates the same visual as the cocktail, immediately making it clear at the table where the dessert came from.
Batching in advance for a group
At a party or wedding, you don't want to shake twenty times. Mix the vodka, liqueur, lime juice, vanilla syrup and passion fruit pulp in the correct proportions in a bottle, shake well and chill for at least two hours. Allow approximately 9 cl of mix per person. Add ice only when serving and shake two or three glasses at a time so the dilution is right. Pour the prosecco shots just before serving; otherwise, they will lose their bubbles.
Frequently asked questions
What is in a Pornstar Martini?
A Pornstar Martini consists of 4 cl vanilla vodka, 1.5 cl passion fruit liqueur such as Passoã, 1.5 cl fresh lime juice, 1 cl vanilla syrup and the pulp of half a passion fruit. You also serve a shot glass with approximately 5 cl of ice-cold prosecco alongside, to drink between sips.
What is in a passionfruit martini?
Passionfruit Martini is the English name for the same cocktail: vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur, fresh lime juice, vanilla syrup and fresh passion fruit, shaken and double-strained. Here too, a shot of ice-cold prosecco is served alongside, to drink between sips. In Dutch bars, the two names are simply used interchangeably.
Why do you get a shot of prosecco with a Pornstar Martini?
The shot is part of the ritual introduced by creator Douglas Ankrah in 2002: the dry, ice-cold bubbles provide a counterpoint to the sweet passion fruit and vanilla. The idea is to take a sip of prosecco first, then the cocktail, and continue alternating.
Which glasses do you use for a Pornstar Martini?
Two: a coupe or martini glass holding 22 to 26 cl for the cocktail, and a shot glass holding 6 to 8 cl for the prosecco. The wide coupe showcases the floating half passion fruit beautifully, while the shot glass completes the ritual; see our pornstar martini glasses.
