Lehmann’s Eaux de Vie tasting glass is made of crystal, holds 15 cl, and is supplied in sets of six. A narrow tulip-shaped stemmed glass designed for tasting eau-de-vie, grappa, and other clear spirits.
Tasting with this glass
The narrow opening concentrates the aromas while allowing enough alcohol to escape so your nose does not become overwhelmed at forty percent ABV or higher. Pour no more than 2 to 3 cl: the glass is designed for smelling and sipping, not for filling. Gently swirl the drink up the sides and let the glass stand for half a minute before smelling. Serve at cellar temperature, as serving it ice-cold suppresses the aromas. If you are comparing several spirits, a spittoon from the tasting accessories range is a worthwhile addition.
Choosing and maintaining it
If you also use the glass for whisky or rum, look for a slightly wider bowl; this narrow shape is ideal for clear eaux-de-vie. Wash it on a moderate cycle and rinse with soft water, as limescale is especially noticeable in a small glass. Dry and polish it while the glass is still warm to the touch, holding the bowl rather than twisting the stem. You can find more models among the whiskey glasses, and store them dust-free on a glass rack.
