This is the Burgundy size in the Esprit series: 53 cl capacity, a bowl 8.9 centimeters wide and 21.9 centimeters high. Intended for wines that need time and air before revealing what they can do. Fill it to about one-third full and let the remaining volume do its work. Six glasses per set.

Complex red wines, such as an older Rioja, a Pinot Noir from Burgundy, or a robust Italian wine, are often closed when you have just opened the bottle. A large bowl solves that: the surface area in contact with air is larger, allowing the wine to open up more quickly. After swirling it a few times, you can smell and taste a different wine than when you first poured it. The slightly tapered rim helps keep those aromas where you want them.
