A wide, shallow 27-centiliter V-shaped bowl on a long, slender stem and a narrow, flat foot: the silhouette everyone immediately recognizes as a cocktail glass. The wide rim gives aromas plenty of room to emerge from a cold-stirred or shaken drink at the bar.
Why the long stem
A martini is served without ice and must therefore stay cold on its own. Holding the glass by the stem keeps your warm hand away from the bowl. The straight V-shaped wall allows the drink to spread out, so the gin and vermouth can be smelled immediately. More shapes can be found among the martini glasses and cocktail glasses.
Strong where it matters
With a glass featuring such a thin stem and wide rim, the material is not a minor detail. Schott Zwiesel’s lead-free Tritan crystal glass contains titanium and zirconium, making the stem and rim significantly more durable before anything breaks.
