What is Edinburgh Gin?

Gin from the Scottish capital

Edinburgh Gin is made in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Scotland is best known for whisky, but a lot of gin is also made there. Edinburgh Gin bears the city's name, and you can see that reflected in the range: the Seaside, for example, is based on the coast near the city.

The foundation of the range is the Classic: a spicy gin with juniper, angelica root, coriander, orris root, lemon peel and cassia. There is also the Seaside, a London Dry-style dry gin inspired by the beaches on the east coast near Edinburgh, with a subtle saline note. Edinburgh Gin also makes flavoured gins. For the Rhubarb & Ginger, the Classic is infused with rhubarb and ginger after distillation. And for those who want it even sweeter, there is the 20% gin liqueur.

How to drink it

Three ways to drink Edinburgh Gin

Classic and Seaside are made for gin and tonics and Martinis. The fruity bottles work best with plenty of ice and a light mixer.

As a gin and tonic

5 cl gin with 15 cl chilled tonic, in a large glass filled with ice. Garnish Classic with a lemon peel, and Seaside with lemon and a sprig of rosemary.

Gin and tonic recipe →

Rhubarb with ginger ale

Pour 5 cl Rhubarb & Ginger Gin over plenty of ice and top up with ginger ale. The ginger in the gin and the soft drink enhance each other. It becomes drier with tonic.

About ginger ale →

In a Dry Martini

Stir 6 cl Seaside and 1 cl dry vermouth with plenty of ice, strain into an ice-cold glass and finish with a lemon peel or an olive. The gin's salty edge pairs well with the olive.

Where does Edinburgh Gin come from?
Edinburgh Gin is made in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. The brand makes a Classic, a Seaside, flavoured gins, and gin liqueurs.
How much alcohol is in Edinburgh Gin?
The Classic and the Seaside have an alcohol content of 43%. The flavoured gins, such as Rhubarb & Ginger and Gooseberry & Elderflower, have 40%. The Rhubarb & Ginger gin liqueur has 20%.
What is the difference between Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger Gin and the liqueur?
The gin has an alcohol content of 40% and is made from the Classic, which is infused with rhubarb and ginger after distillation. It remains a gin, dry enough for a gin and tonic. The liqueur has an alcohol content of 20%, is sweeter and light pink, and is mainly used with sparkling wine, tonic, or over ice.
What do you drink with Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger Gin?
Ginger ale is the logical partner because the ginger in the gin and the soft drink enhance each other. Tonic makes the drink drier. A wedge of orange or a piece of ginger makes a good garnish.
Which glass do you use for gin and tonic?
A large glass that can hold plenty of ice, such as a footed copa-style glass or a large tumbler-style gin and tonic glass. Fill the glass completely with ice: this keeps the drink cold and actually makes it less diluted.
What is Edinburgh Seaside Gin?
A dry London Dry-style gin inspired by the beaches on the east coast near Edinburgh. Juniper takes center stage, with a fresh nose, a slightly salty note, and spicy tones. It has an alcohol content of 43% and works well in a Dry Martini.
