Lehmann Synergie

Synergie is Lehmann’s universal wine glass, crafted by the glassmaker from Reims who develops its shapes together with sommeliers. The range comes in two sizes: a 52 cl glass and a smaller 40 cl glass. The idea behind a universal glass is that you do not need a separate shape for every grape variety, but that a bowl with the right proportions between its width and opening does justice to both a full-bodied red and a crisp white wine. The stem is drawn in one piece and therefore has no glued seam.

52 or 40 centilitres

The 52 cl is the size in which a 12 cl pour of red wine stays comfortably below the widest point, so you can swirl without spilling and the aromas gather in the bowl. The 40 cl is the more compact version: easier on a small table and roomy enough for white wine, which you pour cooler and in smaller measures anyway. Choose the larger size if you want a single series to cover everything. Compare with the broader wine glasses and the large wine glasses.

Pouring and letting the wine breathe

Do not pour above the widest point of the bowl, usually around a third of the height. Above that line the glass narrows, and that is exactly the space you need to catch the aromas. Serve red wine between 15 and 18 degrees, white between 8 and 12. A young, closed red opens up faster in a decanter than in the glass itself: pour it over half an hour before the meal.

Washing crystal glass without scratches

Lead-free crystal glass is thinner and softer than ordinary glass, so scratches and dull patches appear on it more readily. Wash by hand in lukewarm water without harsh detergent, or use a short programme at a low temperature. When drying, hold the glass by the bowl rather than by the foot, because twisting the stem is the most common way a wine glass breaks.

More to explore

If you mostly pour full-bodied red wine and want an even wider bowl, take a look at the red wine glasses. The full range from Lehmann is gathered in the brand overview. Incidentally, a bowl as generous as this one also serves an aperol spritz perfectly well; for prosecco cocktails such as the bellini you are better off with a narrow flute, which holds the bubbles longer.
