Mammoet Lily

A lightly tapered glass that flares open again toward the top: Lily glasses are recognizable by the bend halfway up. It sits comfortably in the hand while also preventing it from slipping out of wet fingers. Mammoet supplies the range in a sturdy box, so a set can be given as a gift without wrapping.

The range consists of a 33 cl tumbler and a 40 cl highball glass, both sold in sets of six. The same shape in two heights, so they look harmonious side by side on the table.

How to choose between the tumbler and the long drink glass

Take the 33 cl tumbler for water, soft drinks and short drinks on ice, and the 40 cl long drink glass for anything that comes with a full mixer. In the tall glass, count on roughly a third ice, which leaves a good 25 cl: exactly one measure of gin and a small bottle of tonic. Look at the rim as well, which on Lily is smooth and drawn slightly inwards and therefore chips less readily than a straight cut edge. You will find more from the brand at Mammoet, and a wider choice among the long drink glasses.

How to pour from a Lily glass

Measure spirits with a jigger rather than pouring by eye, because in a 40 cl glass a double measure barely shows until you taste it. For a gin and tonic, let the tonic run down along the wall and stir once at most, so the carbonation stays in. A Cuba Libre you build with lime that you first squeeze above the glass and then drop in, so the oil from the peel comes along.

Material and care

The glasses are made of soda-lime glass, the usual material for drinking glasses, which stays clear and copes well with daily use. They are dishwasher safe. Put them on the top rack if your machine has one and do not let them stand against cutlery, because a knock against the rim is the most common cause of a chip.

Is Lily not what you are looking for?

If you are after a lower, wider model that sits better in the hand, have a look at the tumblers. For glasses cut for one specific cocktail, from coupe to hurricane, the cocktail glasses overview is ready for you. And anyone looking for a set as a gift will find versions among the coloured glasses that stand out at once on a laid table between clear glass. There are gift-boxed sets among those too.
