Royal Leerdam Plaza

A terrace rarely has a complete glassware set. Royal Leerdam’s Plaza is designed for that: three models that work well together, a 19 cl champagne flute and two wine glasses of 33 and 44 cl, all sold in sets of six.

These are not glasses that demand attention. The stem is straight, the bowl is smooth, and the shape is so neutral that white, red, and sparkling wines all look perfectly at home in them. That is precisely why the collection is popular in places where many glasses are served at once and nobody has time to sort them.

Flute or bowl, 19 to 44 cl

The size determines the role. The 19 cl flute is narrow and tall and keeps the bubbles of prosecco or champagne together, which shows in how long the bead keeps rising. The 33 cl bowl is the size for white wine: small enough to stay cold until the last sip and wide enough to release aroma. The tall 44 cl bowl gives red wine more room and also works when you want to put a single glass of water on the table. If you are looking for narrower or roomier models, have a look at the champagne flutes and at the red wine glasses.

Pouring and serving

Pour sparkling wine at an angle along the wall and fill the flute to about two thirds, and the foam stays low. White wine goes to just below the widest point of the 33 cl bowl, after which you top up rather than pour ahead; small servings are simply the best way to keep it cold. Red wine gets room to swirl in the 44 cl bowl. For an aperitif with prosecco, the recipe for the Aperol Spritz is ready and waiting.

Care and sturdiness

Plaza is machine-made soda-lime glass, built for daily use and for a dishwasher that runs several times a day. The glasses withstand high temperatures and rapid changes, which makes them suitable for hospitality use. Load them into the basket without the bowls touching, because even sturdy glass picks up hairline cracks from knocks. With hard water, rinse afterwards and dry the bowl to prevent limescale streaks.

Looking further within the range

The other series from this brand can be found under Royal Leerdam. If you mainly serve white and want a glass that keeps the wine cold for longer, have a look at the white wine glasses. To keep the bottle itself cool there are the champagne coolers. And with bubbles and orange juice, the recipe for the Mimosa makes a simple start to brunch.
