Onis Endessa

Think in terms of jobs. The 22 cl tumbler is the classic water glass beside the plate; the 28 cl is the size for soft drinks and juice; the 36 cl you use for carafe water on the table or for spirits over ice. On the long drink side, 29.6 cl is the standard for draught beer and soft drinks, and 35.5 cl is meant for mixed drinks filled to the rim with ice. If you only need water glasses, the 22 and 28 cl will do. For a complete menu, add one long drink size.

The straight wall without a waist makes these glasses quick to fill and quick to rinse, which at a busy bar is worth more than it sounds on paper. For a Cuba Libre fill the 35.5 cl glass completely with ice, pour in the rum, and pour the cola down the side so the carbonation stays in. For a Gin and Tonic this glass is cramped: that serve clearly benefits from a wider bowl, where the botanicals have more room to open up.

Onis hardens the edge of the series, exactly the spot where the most damage occurs in a dishwashing area. The shape also helps: no ridges or grooves means no places where beer residue and grease can accumulate. After a round of beer, rinse with a glass brush, because grease residue from foam is the reason the next glass does not hold a head. With beer glasses, you should leave out rinse aid.

The brand's other series can be found at Onis. For other shapes in similar sizes, see tumbler glasses and long drink glasses, where the narrow and wide models are shown side by side. If you mainly use them for beer, you'll find the shapes that retain the head under beer glasses. If you have limited cupboard space, stackable glasses are a better choice than these straight models.
