Let what goes into the glass decide your choice. For gin and tonic, the 59 cl copa beats any highball glass: the more ice it holds, the slower that ice melts and the less your drink is watered down. For whisky and an Old Fashioned, reach for the 26 cl tumbler, which takes exactly one large cube plus 6 cl of spirit. The 35 cl tumbler is the water glass at the table. The 47 cl highball is meant for mixed drinks with plenty of soda and ice, the 35 cl version for juice and beer.

Fill the copa right up with ice cubes first, pour the gin over the ice and then let the tonic run down along a bar spoon, so the bubbles stay in. Stir once, no more. Garnish with whatever the gin suggests: a strip of lemon peel, a sprig of rosemary, a few juniper berries. The 22 cl coupe and the 18.5 cl martini glass come straight out of the freezer, because there is no ice in them to keep the drink cold.

Onis makes these glasses from tempered glass, which means the rim has been heat-treated and stands up to knocks better than ordinary soda-lime glass. You notice it in the dishwasher: the rims chip less quickly and the glasses stay clear for longer. Do give the copa its own spot in the basket, because the wide bowl catches water on the foot and that drop is the last to dry. A short rinse cycle with soft water prevents a limescale haze.
