Schott Zwiesel Taste

Six glasses from one series, yet each one offers a different drinking experience: that is the idea behind Taste by Schott Zwiesel. The range includes everything from a 36 cl white wine glass to a 78 cl Burgundy goblet, with a 66 cl Bordeaux goblet and a 28 cl champagne flute with nucleation point in between.

Taste is designed for anyone who wants to serve every style of wine from a single series without making the table look cluttered. The bowls share the same slender stem and crystal-clear finish, keeping a set table looking calm while each glass does its own job.

Which Taste glass suits your wine

Start with the wine you pour most often. For firm, aromatic red wine the 78 cl burgundy goblet is the logical choice: the wide belly gives the wine room and the tapering rim keeps the aroma in. If you mainly drink bordeaux or another wine with firm tannins, the 66 cl goblet suits better, being taller and slimmer. For white wine and rosé, 36 cl is plenty. The 50 cl red wine glass is the all-rounder if you only want one size in the cupboard, and the nine-piece After Work Drinks Set covers the common shapes in one go. Feel free to compare with the wider selection of red wine glasses and white wine glasses.

How to pour from a Taste bowl

Never pour a bowl beyond the widest point of the belly. With the 78 cl burgundy that comes to about a third of the glass; the rest is there to catch the aroma when you swirl. The 28 cl champagne flute has an effervescence point in the base, a small worked spot that carbon dioxide bubbles cling to. That keeps the string of pearls running until the glass is empty. Fill a flute to about two thirds and hold it by the stem, so the warmth of your hand does not heat the wine.

Tritan crystal glass and the dishwasher

Taste is made from Tritan crystal glass, the tempered crystal from Schott Zwiesel with titanium and zirconium worked into it. That makes the rim and the stem better able to withstand the knocks and temperature swings of the dishwasher, and the glass stays clear after hundreds of wash cycles. Place the bowls separately in the rack so they do not touch each other, and go over them with a linen cloth if you want to avoid limescale streaks. The stem is the most vulnerable part: hold the glass by the bowl while you dry it.

Looking further

If you are looking for the same Tritan quality in another shape, have a look at the complete Schott Zwiesel glassware or at the sister label Zwiesel Glas. If you want to let a young red wine breathe first, you will find a suitable carafe among the decanters. And if it turns out not to be wine after all, the recipes for a French 75 and a Kir Royal are waiting among the other cocktails.
