Schott Zwiesel Mondial

For years, Mondial has set tables in restaurants where no one notices the glassware—and that is exactly the point. Schott Zwiesel’s series is designed not to stand out: a simple bowl on a straight stem, in nine shapes covering the entire dinner.

From the 7 cl liqueur glass to the 59 cl Burgundy glass, the range covers wine, beer, cognac, and digestifs. This lets you set a table without mixing brands, which makes reordering easier.

The nine shapes at a glance

For wine, Mondial gives you four options. The 25 cl white wine glass is the smallest bowl, meant to keep the wine cool. The 42 cl red wine glass is the all-rounder for the everyday bottle, and for pinot noir and other aromatic reds there are two burgundy bowls, of 32 cl and 59 cl. The larger one is deliberately generous: you fill it a third of the way and the rest is working room for the aroma. The 19 cl champagne glass is a narrow flute. Alongside those there is a 30 cl beer tulip, a 51 cl cognac glass, a 24 cl martini glass and a 7 cl liqueur glass.

At the table and after dinner

On a classically laid table the water glass stands to the right above the knife, with the red and the white wine glass behind it in order of use. The flute joins them as soon as a toast is called. After dinner the 51 cl cognac glass takes its place: you cup that wide bowl in your hand, so the warmth of your palm releases the alcohol. The 7 cl liqueur glass is meant for a small digestif and not for a shot. Use the martini glass for a Dry Martini, and for the bubbles there is a separate recipe for a Champagne Cocktail.

Tritan crystal glass in hospitality

Mondial is made of Tritan crystal glass, with titanium and zirconium in the glass body instead of lead. That makes the rim and the stem stand up to daily machine washing without the glass turning cloudy. When drying, never twist the bowl against the foot, because that is where the classic break happens. Take hold of the glass by the bowl and keep the foot still. Store the glasses upright so no stale air is trapped inside.

Further within the range

Other series from this brand are with the Schott Zwiesel glasses. If you want to compare on shape and capacity first, start with the overview of wine glasses or specifically with the white wine glasses. The individual shapes from this series also appear under martini glasses and liqueur glasses. And if you are after a glass you can hold without a stem, the tumbler glasses category is the place to start.
