Start by choosing your two workhorses. For water and soft drinks at the table the 20 cl tumbler is plenty; for whisky, rum or a cocktail on ice, reach for the 30 cl, which takes a large ice cube plus 6 cl of drink. On the long drink side, the 29 cl is the all-rounder and the 31 cl is the size for mixed drinks with lots of ice. The difference between the tall and the low 22 cl is one of impression: tall and narrow looks fuller at the same capacity, which works well for soft drinks and beer. The 30 cl tumbler is the glass for a Manhattan on ice, even though that cocktail classically belongs in a stemmed glass. Stir whisky, red vermouth and bitters with ice for half a minute, then pour the lot over a fresh cube. For a Cuba Libre use the 31 cl long drink glass: ice first, then rum, then cola down the side of the glass so the fizz stays in. Always fill long drink glasses right to the top with ice, because a half-full glass melts faster.

Stand them upright in a dishwasher rack and don't stack them while they are still warm, because then they suction together. If a glass does get stuck, stand the outer one in cold water for a moment and then pull gently.
