Schott Zwiesel Diva

Some wine glasses are designed not to stand out, and that is precisely the point. Diva by Schott Zwiesel has a long, slender stem and a bowl that rises high, so you mainly see the wine and barely notice the glass. It is a collection that has been around for decades and can be found in both restaurants and homes.

The collection comprises three wine glasses and a champagne glass, complemented by a decanting funnel and a set of eighteen. Burgundy glasses are available in 46 and 84 cl.

Which bowl should you choose

Choose based on the wine you pour most often. The 84 cl burgundy glass is the largest bowl, made for pinot noir and nebbiolo, wines that need plenty of air before they give up their aroma. The 46 cl burgundy glass is the same shape in a more manageable size and fits an ordinary cupboard better. For bordeaux, syrah and other full-bodied red wine, the 77 cl bowl is the right one, taller and narrower in shape. The 22 cl champagne glass is a classic flute with a sparkling point, narrow enough to hold the bubbles for a long time. If you want to lay a whole table in one go, there is a set of eighteen.

Pouring and decanting

Always pick up a Diva by the stem, never by the bowl, because the warmth of your hand raises the temperature of the wine faster than you would think. Pour to just below the widest point and swirl the glass gently so the wine catches air. A young, closed bottle is best poured through the decanting funnel first. The 22 cl flute suits sparkling wine as well as a kir royal or champagne cocktail, with the sugar or liqueur going in at the bottom.

Tritan and care

Diva is made from Tritan crystal glass, the lead-free glass from Schott Zwiesel with titanium and zirconium. Despite the slender stem, these glasses are dishwasher safe, as long as they stand clear of one another in the rack. Avoid an aggressive rinse cycle and let the bowls dry upright. When drying by hand, never twist the bowl while holding the foot, because that is where the stem snaps.

Worth a look

If you would like to see more models from this brand, the full Schott Zwiesel range is waiting, including the bar and tumbler series. For a broader overview of stemware in other price ranges, take a look at the wine glasses. To let a bottle breathe without a funnel, pick one of the decanters, where the wine gets more surface than in the glass alone. Torn between the two burgundy glasses? Measure the height of your cupboard shelf first.
