La Rochere Ouessant

Start by looking at how much cupboard space you have. The 26 cl tumbler and the 22 cl bodega stack inside one another, as does the 22 cl wine glass, and that saves a great deal of room. If you want one size for everything, the 26 cl tumbler is the safest choice: big enough for water and soft drinks, small enough for juice at breakfast. For hot drinks, choose by height: the 9 cl espresso cup, the 27 cl coffee glass or the tall 45 cl latte macchiato glass that shows off the layers. Because the wall is thick, a cold drink stays cold longer than it would in thin glass. With hot drinks it works the other way round: warm the latte macchiato glass with hot water first, so the milk keeps its temperature longer and the glass does not crack from the difference. The 22 cl wine glass is deliberately small; it is meant for a glass with a meal, not for swirling a big red. A jug of sangria or one of the mocktails looks good in it.

La Rochère presses this glass in France, in a works that has been making glass since the sixteenth century. Pressed glass is thicker and heavier than blown glass and therefore far less prone to breaking, which makes it suitable for children and for outdoors. Everything in the series is dishwasher safe. Do not stack the glasses while wet or force them together, and they will keep coming apart easily.
