Let the way you serve decide the size. A cocktail without ice goes in the 15 cl glass or the 22 cl martini glass, small enough to stay cold to the last sip. For a gin and tonic, reach for the 75 cl gin glass, where a good load of ice and botanicals still leaves room. Whisky and anything over a large block goes in the 45 cl double tumbler. Long drinks with tonic or soda go in the 57 cl highball, and the 27 cl fizz glass is for short, sparkling servings. The wider range is at cocktail glasses.

Chill a cocktail glass before you pour: fill it with ice and water, set it aside while you stir or shake, and empty it just before serving. Stir in a mixing glass with a long bar spoon; shake in a shaker if citrus or egg goes in. The 46.5 cl snifter is for cognac and aged rum, which you drink at hand temperature. Fill the 30 cl coupe and the 21 cl flute at an angle, along the wall.

Luigi Bormioli makes the series from SON.hyx, a lead-free glass that is harder than ordinary soda-lime glass and therefore stays clear after many wash cycles. The rims are heat treated, which counteracts chipping where glasses touch each other in the basket. They are dishwasher safe; place the bowls apart and pick the glasses up by the foot. The heavy foot makes them more stable than their shape suggests.
