Size mostly determines how you pour. The 19 cl glass takes a modest pour of about ten centilitres, just enough for white wine that has to stay cold down to the last sip. The 25 cl is the most versatile: room for a normal pour plus air above it, so you can swirl. Go for the 31 cl when you also want to serve red wine from the same range, or when you would rather top up less often. For a table that hangs together, stick to one size and add a second one for the other colour of wine.

Never fill a wine glass beyond the widest point of the bowl. On the Lineal that point sits lower than on a rounded Burgundy bowl, so pour sparingly: the space above the wine is where the aroma gathers. Hold the glass by the stem rather than the bowl, or your hand will warm the wine. Serve white wine at around eight to ten degrees and red closer to sixteen. Opening the evening with something festive? A kir royal fits the bill, and on a warm afternoon it pours sangria just as happily.

On a stemmed glass, the weak spot is where the stem meets the bowl. So never grab a glass by the bowl to pull it out of a full rack. In the dishwasher, place the glasses separately with the stem clear, and choose a programme that stays below sixty degrees.
