Stölzle Lausitz Exquisit

Start from what goes into it most often. The 35 cl is the smallest and is meant for white wine, dessert wine or a modest pour; the wine stays cooler in it because you finish it sooner. The 48 cl is the all-rounder that handles both white and lighter red wine and does not look too large on most tables.

Above those sit two bowls of around 65 cl. They are there for red wine that needs air: you pour to the widest point and keep room above it to swirl. If you want to make do with two sizes, take the 48 and one of the large ones.

Pour to the widest point of the bowl and no higher, not even in the large glass. The empty space you keep is where the aroma gathers, and without it you cannot swirl the wine.

Hold the glass by the stem. A hand around the bowl warms white wine by several degrees within a few minutes, and with a crisp wine you notice that straight away. An aperol spritz or a hugo spritz goes in the same bowl, by the way.

Stölzle Lausitz makes Exquisit from lead-free crystal glass, which is clearer than ordinary glass and does not go dull from repeated washing. The glasses are dishwasher safe.

Stand them upright and make sure the bowls do not touch each other, because the thin rim is the most vulnerable part. Polish afterwards with a linen cloth while the glass is still lukewarm, and no limescale streaks will be left behind.
